1 Kings 5
Observation & Interpretation
1 Kings 5:1-12 – Solomon commissioned Hiram, king of Tyre, to supply cedar and cypress for the building of the house.
1 Kings 5:1-6 – Tyre’s major export is timber, and in verse 6 Solomon seeks an arrangement by which “cedars of Lebanon” can be sources and supplied, along with craftsmen necessary to put the wood to best use. (ESVEC – Comment)
1 Kings 5:7-12 – … Hiram’s reaction is both exuberant and profoundly God-centered…It was not uncommon for a foreign dignitary to give credit to the local deity for the successes of the king. (ESVEC – Comment)
Mark 8
Observation & Interpretation
Mark 8:6 – The paucity of the food renders the ensuing multiplication into sharp relief. (ESVEC – Comment)
Mark 8:7 – Beyond the seven loaves of bread, they also had a few small fish which Jesus told them to also set before them.
Mark 7:31-8:26 – Jesus is not merely intent on impressing people with his authority or power. Rather, he has come to restore mankind to the original creational intent, enabling them to walk with God in all areas of life—spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical, both individually and corporately.
