Judges 18
Observation & Interpretation
Judges 18:6 – The Levite priest that was serving Micah told the five Danite spies that their journey was under the eye of the LORD.
- This seems to meant that the Levite was telling them that the LORD was with them.
- Without any effort to consult God, the Levite declared that their journey would be a success because the LORD was watching over them. Since the LORD had assigned the Danites different territory the Levite was misusing the Lord’s name (Exod. 20:7) to tell the Danites what they wanted to hear (CSB Notes).
Judges 18:20 – The proposal to go with the Danites and be their priest rather than Micah’s made the Levite’s heart glad.
- …the Danites invite [the Levite priest] to come with them and serve them as priest. Their offer is a huge promotion in terms of priestly influence and duties, so the Levite happily accepts. (FSB)
2 Peter 2
Observation & Interpretation
2 Peter 2:10 – Peter describes how those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion do not tremble as they blaspheme.
- Such individuals do not have a reverential fear of the Lord
