2 Samuel 6

Observation & Interpretation

2 Sam. 6:2 – David brought up the ark of God from Baale-judah.

2 Sam. 6:3-4 – Uzzah and Ahio were driving the new cart for the ark and Ahio went before the ark.

  • Ahio was in front of the ark.

2 Sam. 6:8 – David was angry because the LORD had broken out against Uzzah

  • David’s anger was perhaps due to Uzzah’s carelessness that led to God’s anger being displayed. The king had not wanted such a joyous celebration to be marred by death. It is also possible that David’s anger was directed to God for humans often fail to comprehend God’s justice. (BBC)

2 Sam. 6:17 – David had pitched a tent for the ark.

2 Sam. 6:20-22 – Michal accused David of honoring himself by his actions. David replied that the LORD chose him above her father (Saul) and that he would celebrate before the LORD. David draws a contrast between his abasement before the eyes of Michal and being held in honor by the female servants of whom she spoke.

Matthew 13

Observation & Interpretation

Matt. 13:32 – The mustard plant grows larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree in whose branches the birds of the air make nests.

  • From the humblest of beginnings (a mustard seed), protection and provision are given to the birds.

Mat.. 13:24-58 – Almost every gospel work has a small beginning. Corporations, nations, and cause start small too. A few grow explosively, but most look insignificant at some point. The kingdom begins humbly and grows incrementally from within. Let the faithful be patient as it grows…Whether one bumps into Jesus by accident or searches for the best religion or philosophy, the kingdom welcomes close scrutiny. It lies within our grasp, but we must abandon all else to gain it. (ESVEC – Response)
