Proverbs 4-6
Observation & Interpretation
Solomon urges his sons to not forsake his teaching, instructing them to pursue wisdom and insight. Wisdom is personified as a woman who is to be highly prized and guarded because she is their life. In chapter 5, Solomon warns his sons against the forbidden woman and adultery. He exhorts them to drink water from their own cistern (their own wife) and rejoice in the wife of their youth. In chapter 6, Solomon gives additional warnings to work hard, avoid crooked speech, keep from devising evil and provides seven specific things that the LORD hates. He returns to the topic of adultery and that the reproofs of discipline will preserve them from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the adulteress. He describes the man who steals and the destruction, dishonor and disgrace that will befall him.
Romans 8
Observation & Interpretation
Paul speaks of how there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. He contrasts those in the flesh with those in the Spirit and that those are led by the Spirit are sons of God, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. Paul describes how the sufferings of this world are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed. All of creation has been groaning with waiting with eager longing for adoption as sons. For those who have been adopted, there is nothing that can separate them from the love of Christ Jesus our Lord.
