Proverbs 22-24

Observation & Interpretation

Proverbs by Solomon continue, speaking on the actions and consequences of the wise and fool, the righteous and the wicked. Also provided are the words and sayings of the wise.

  • Proverbs 23:23 – Solomon urges to but truth but not sell it, to purchase wisdom, instruction and understanding. “We should be willing to pay a great price for truth, but unwilling to sell it for any consideration…We should spare no pains to acquire them, but never surrender them for anything in this world.” (BBC)

Romans 14

Observation & Interpretation

Paul exhorts not to quarrel over opinions. There will be differences over whether and what to eat, but this should not be the cause for a brother to stumble. Judgment on a brother is not to be passed in this way. The work of God is not to be destroyed for the sake of food. Paul contrasts the blessed who has no reason to pass judgment on himself with the one who doubts and is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not by faith. He concludes that whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.
