Mark 13

Observation & Interpretation

And if the Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days. (Mark 13:20 – ESV)

God shows His favor toward His people in shortening the days during the time of the tribulation. The CSB Notes provides similar comment by saying that, “The Lord will curtail the tribulation for the sake of the elect, emphasizing God’s sovereign choice.”

Application

It should be for the saints never to forget the many ways God extends His grace to undeserving sinners. All have gone astray and no one does good, not even one. And yet, God expresses His love by going so far as to supernaturally manipulate creation for the sake of His children. How wondrous and marvelous is our God to do such things, and what complete devotion and worship should be our response.
