Application
In Genesis, God had orchestrated two dreams of Pharaoh that needed interpretation, prompting the recall of the cupbearer and subsequent meeting of Pharaoh and Joseph. Even though Joseph was imprisoned, God was doing a work that would bring Joseph to be second in command over Egypt under Pharaoh. While we should not necessarily expect God to usher us to Joseph’s level of power and prominence, we can expect that our difficult seasons are not without purpose and will ultimately be redeemed.
In Mark, the disciples asked Jesus when would be the signs of the end of the age. However, Jesus only secondarily answered the question of “when” and instead focused His instruction on maintaining awareness and to not be led astray. So too we would prefer to know when things will take place, but Jesus wants instead for the hearts of His children to place their full faith and trust in Him. By His Word, He has given us all we need to know of His coming and the rest we must leave to God and His exclusive domain.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you that you are with me through the challenges of life and that I can trust fully in Your redemptive work. Thank you that you have given us Your Word by which we may be armored with the true knowledge of Your coming and not be led astray by every wind and doctrine. Father, help me to properly balance my meditation of Your Word, obedient to my calling to be watchful for the signs of Your coming that You have provided but also leaving what remains in Your capable hands.
