Romans 15

Observation & Interpretation

Paul speaks of how those who are strong are to bear the failings of the weak, that each of us are to please our neighbor to build him up. He prays that the God of endurance and comfort would grant them to live in harmony with one another. Paul told them that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy. Again, Paul prays that the God of hope would fill them with joy and peace in believing, so that the power of the Holy Spirit they may abound in hope.

Paul describes his satisfaction with the brothers and that God had given him to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel. He expresses how he has reason to be proud of his work for God. His ambition is to preach the gospel, though not where Christ has already been named, lest he build on someone else’s foundation. He explains that this is the reason why had been so often hindered from coming to them.

Paul urges the brothers to strive together by the Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, that he may be delivered from the unbelievers in Judea, and that his service for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints, so that by God’s will he may come to them with joy and be refreshed in their company. The chapter ends with a prayer by Paul that the God of peace be with them all.
